Who We Are

The Huntsville Gem and Mineral Society was organized in 1958 by a small group
of people who were interested in the lapidary arts.  The Society was officially
incorporated in Alabama in 1965 as a non-profit educational organization.  In
1961 in consisted of 15 members, and currently has over 160 members.  This
includes the younger members who attend the Pebble Pups, a special program for
the children of adult members.

The Huntsville Gem & Mineral Society is an organization for people interested in
mineralogy, geology, paleontology, and the lapidary arts.  The Society is affiliated
with the American Federation of Mineralogical Society and a member of the
Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Society.  The goals of the organization are
to create and stimulate interest in the study of geology, fossils, gems, minerals,
and the lapidary arts.  The organization sponsors field trips, presents workshops
for members, holds a yearly special exhibition and show, puts in special displays
and provides speakers to schools and other organizations.
